Job summary

Chess Dynamics Ltd seeks a Principal Electronics Engineer to lead electronics design within a team of 15 engineers, driving R&D developments and acting as a role model for less experienced engineers.

The role combines Electrical/Electronic responsibilities, leadership of major projects, and ongoing process improvement with frequent senior management and customer interaction. Hybrid/flexible working is offered.

Qualifications

• Strong degree in a related discipline accredited by the IET.
• Typically, 10 years relevant experience expected.
• Experience leading and supervising projects or people.
• Solid all-round theoretical and practical understanding of electronics designs.
• Ability to complete analysis-based activities (circuit emulation, performance, or power budgets).
• Knowledge of motors and drive technology and ability to calculate motor performance.
• Awareness of control systems analysis and performance techniques.
• Likely to be a Chartered Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Lead headline projects for the business and set standards of engineering practice, acting as a role model for engineers.
• Proactively review and enhance engineering processes and drive innovation in all aspects of work.
• Support bids, proposals and acquisition of new business with senior management and key customers.
• Provide technical leadership for multidisciplinary projects and foster systematic thinking to deliver effective solutions.
• Take a line management supporting role to train and mentor other engineers and assist resource planning.
