Job summary

Our client, a Tier 1 D&B Contractor in the water sector, seeks a Principal EICA Engineer to lead design for water and wastewater projects in the South West. Exeter or Bristol (Hybrid) with a strong focus on cost-effective, compliant plant layouts.

You will coordinate design across disciplines, produce drawings, and ensure HSE, standards, and contract requirements are met. A Chartered Engineer or professional membership is required, with extensive experience in water treatment projects.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment.
• Experience managing staff in design for water and sewage treatment plants.
• Full membership of a professional institution and Chartered Engineer.
• Preferable: Electrical or ICA Engineering degree.
• Minimum: HND with extensive relevant experience.
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economical plant layouts.
• Good knowledge of water treatment, mechanical, process, electrical engineering and project management.
• Flexible mindset to assimilate large datasets.
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to access all site and office locations within the region.

Responsibilities

• Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
• Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.
• Provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department.
• Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
• Assist in developing and monitoring procedures and processes.
• Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
• Ensure coordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external in order to ensure that the design processes carried out on the contract are co-ordinated for the benefit of the contract as a whole.
• To work within a culture where satisfying the customer is recognised as the key to achieving other objectives, and that customers include everyone receiving benefit from our processes, whether end users or other departments within the company.
• Maintain a personal development plan.
• Assist in supervising and developing staff.
• Assist in ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
• Reduce waste to a minimum from all departmental activities.
• Ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
• Ensure that design takes full regard of all health and safety requirements.

Job Description

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominantly in the water industry who have been awarded a programme of work to deliver non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects for South West Water and they are recruiting for a Principal EICA Engineer to help deliver these projects.

Reporting to the Regional Discipline Lead in this role you will provide superior quality engineering design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will co-ordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Strong understand the principles of water and sewage treatment.
• Experience of managing members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants
• Full Membership of a professional institution and Chartered Engineer
• Preferable: Relevant discipline Engineering degree in Electrical or ICA
• Minimum: Relevant discipline Engineering HND with extensive suitable experience.
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts
• Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
• A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly
