We are looking for a Principal Ecologist who is enthusiastic, curious and seeking a new challenge. This role offers flexible working options with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office/on site and flexible start and finish times.

What does the role involve?

As a Principal Ecologist, you will manage all ecological aspects of projects, ensuring best practice and high standards. Responsibilities include preparing bids and tenders, managing site surveys, and reviewing ecology proposals and reports for technical quality and branding.

Role Responsibilities May Include
  • Managing large/complex projects
  • Liaising with project managers and clients on ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary projects
  • Conducting desk studies and site-based ecological assessments, including habitat surveys and assessments of protected species support
  • Analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and presenting ecological data
  • Producing technical reports such as ecological appraisals, impact assessments, and license applications
  • Acting as an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects

To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Have
  • Experience managing large/complex ecological projects in a consultancy setting
  • A passion for mentoring and inspiring team members
  • Thorough knowledge of UK survey methodologies, legislation, and best practices
  • Experience in ecological surveys and habitat assessments
  • Report writing skills including PEA, impact assessments, and license applications
  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental or Earth Sciences or a related field
  • CIEEM membership and eligibility for CEnv/CEcol
  • Protected species survey license (desirable)
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel
