Job summary

RED Engineering Design seeks a Principal Design Manager to be based in London, Bicester or Newcastle. Lead high-profile M&E projects, manage client relationships, and drive design excellence with a focus on quality, risk and profitability.

You will mentor teams, coordinate with sub-consultants, and ensure compliance with standards while supporting business development and international projects. This role requires Chartered status and extensive experience in design management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level engineering degree and professional registration preferred.
• Experience leading design teams and projects in a consultancy environment.
• Strong knowledge of design processes and standards (UK/European).
• Excellent client management and reporting capabilities.
• Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high quality client relationships and internal management, team leadership and project delivery.
• Ensure quality assurance and adherence to contract scope and policy.
• Lead project programme, design team coordination and stakeholder engagement.
• Mentor and develop project team and support business development.
• Oversee financials, invoicing, WiP and cash flow projections.
