We have recently become a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework, aiming to better understand climate change impacts and flood risks in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework, AtkinsRéalis will provide survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological, and other professional services to support climate event planning and response. This significant program will enhance the Environment Agency's understanding of climate change impacts and help mitigate flooding risks.

As a result of this and other projects, we have vacancies across the UK for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals in technical roles.

Role:

Contribute to and lead hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects.

Expertise:

Proficiency in 1D and 2D modelling for rivers, surface water, and coastal areas.

Location:

Vacancies across the UK.

AtkinsRéalis is a leading engineering, environmental, and design consultancy offering opportunities to work on diverse projects at various scales. Our ongoing projects include flood risk management for the Environment Agency, local authorities, and major infrastructure projects like HS2 and Sizewell C. We also work internationally in regions such as the Red Sea economic zone, Middle East developments, and North America, collaborating with teams worldwide.

Requirements:

Our current vacancies are for Associate consultants, engineers, and modelers, primarily in UK offices, but exceptional candidates from other locations will be considered. You should have experience in delivering flood risk projects with a focus on hydraulic modelling, capable of leading technical work and mentoring junior team members. Building strong client relationships through collaborative skills is essential.

  • Experience: Extensive experience in flood risk analysis for strategy, planning, development, or design, with a proven track record of project delivery.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 1D-2D modelling tools like Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS, and GIS tools such as ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS. Hydrological assessment experience (FEH, UK hydrology) is desirable.
  • Leadership: Some experience in leading technical teams.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make robust decisions based on data.

Chartered status is highly valued, and we support professional development through mentoring and memberships with institutions like ICE or CIWEM. Civil engineering design experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed technical work including hydraulic modelling, data analysis, GIS, and reporting, ensuring quality standards.
  • Manage and supervise junior staff, support project managers, and actively progress projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and provide high-quality client service.
  • Support business development activities, including tendering and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of the Flood Risk Team through technical networks.
The Individual should:
  • Be motivated and committed to technical excellence.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be adaptable and open to new challenges.
  • Have good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Maintain high standards and attention to detail.
Training:

We offer a range of training and development activities, supporting professional memberships and career progression, including access to CPD and mentorship. Opportunities exist to move into client, business, or project management roles.
