Job summary

Highfield Professional Solutions Ltd is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer for a senior, technically demanding role at Devonport Royal Dockyard. The position offers hybrid working (1-2 days/week in Oxfordshire or Warrington), 35 hours, and a focus on refurbishing and developing subway systems within the 10 Dockyard site.

Qualifications

• Experience designing highly complex services subways or similar infrastructure.
• Experience within nuclear, defence or other highly regulated environments is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural design, regulations and standards.
• Understanding of Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM.
• Experience substantiating Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs).
• Ability to manage complex design development throughout the lifecycle.
• Provide expert technical guidance to subcontracted design houses.
• Familiarity with BIM environments and cross-discipline coordination.
• Awareness of project planning, budgeting and safety/quality procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead one or more technical design packages across the lifecycle.
• Provide design assurance and review subcontracted work.
• Ensure designs comply with specifications, standards and regulations.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to integrate designs into overall facility layout.
• Manage complex interfaces between existing and proposed infrastructure.
• Maintain design intent through change control.
• Advise subcontracted design houses to support development.
• Support governance for subway remediation and new designs.
• Collaborate with other design teams to coordinate works.
• Support project planning, management and budgeting.
• Ensure activities align with health, safety and quality procedures.
