Overview

Principal Civil / Structural Engineer

Surbiton KT5

£60k-£75k

Dynamic and creative design consultancy based in Surbiton requires an experienced Civil / Structural Engineer to join their team. Ideally you will have buildings and bridges experience as well as other structures—the firm works on a variety of civil / structural infrastructure projects including substation designs and projects in the power and energy sector.

The firm is a 40-strong, financially robust practice with major top-name clients. You would have the chance to make a real impact on how this business grows going forwards. They are a very social and friendly group at the office.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings, sites and deal with clients; communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
• Lead projects, mentor staff and participate in issuing fee bids.
• Design responsibilities include substations, transformer foundations, gantries, equipment plinths and cable management platforms.
• Work on large new footbridges over railways at stations, highways over rail bridges, lineside services and structures, platform extensions, station refurbishments and HV cable route design.
• Engage in renewables schemes, embankment and cutting works, depot buildings and structures; experience in both steel and concrete is required.
• Some survey work involved and occasional unsociable hours.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Experience in buildings and bridges; able to work on a variety of civil/structural infrastructure projects including substations and power/energy sector work.
• Proficient in both steel and concrete design.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a strong team player; collaboration is important to the firm.
• Experience leading projects, mentoring staff and issuing fee bids.
• Willingness to engage in survey work and flexible hours as required.
