Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Principal / Senior Civil Engineer to join our Bristol team on a permanent basis. You will lead the design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects, provide technical leadership, and ensure design and operational excellence across all civil engineering activities.

The role requires extensive highway and drainage design experience, external works, and ability to produce reports and fee proposals, ensuring compliance with CDM and UK Building Regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience in producing preliminary and detailed highway design (s38 / s278 Highways Act).
• Ability to design drainage (s104 / s98 Water Act), including SuDS and flow control structures.
• Experience in residential and commercial external works design, including earthworks assessments.
• Proficiency in producing technical reports, assessments, statements, and fee proposals.
• Understanding of compliance with CDM and UK Building Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects.
• Provide expert consultation and technical leadership.
• Ensure design and operational excellence in civil engineering activities.
• Design and supervise roads, bridges, and water systems.
• Ensure projects meet environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with clients and other engineers for project execution.
• Oversee project delivery from proposal to completion with quality, cost and time objectives.
• Provide mentoring to engineers and technicians.
