Principal Civil Engineer

Our client is looking for an accomplished Principal Civil Engineer to join its Manchester team, offering the opportunity to lead talented engineering professionals, deliver complex projects and contribute to the continued success of a thriving multidisciplinary consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware engineer who thrives on responsibility and enjoys bringing people together to deliver outstanding results. You will lead major civil engineering project teams, oversee multiple smaller projects where required, and ensure designs are delivered to the highest standards of quality, programme and budget.

Working across a varied portfolio of projects, you will draw on your broad civil engineering expertise to oversee solutions involving drainage, highways, earthworks, foundations, substructures and external works. Depending on your experience, you may also contribute specialist knowledge across sectors such as defence, rail, nuclear, life sciences, contaminated land and ground improvement.

As a key technical leader, you will ensure teams have the right skills and resources to succeed, maintain compliance with relevant design standards and quality management procedures, and promote safe, efficient and coordinated project delivery. You will work closely with senior colleagues and multidisciplinary design teams, helping to resolve complex technical challenges, manage change and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

Our client is seeking a degree-qualified Civil Engineer, or equivalent, who is Chartered with CEng MICE or MIStructE and brings substantial experience delivering significant engineering projects. A comprehensive understanding of current civil and structural design standards, CDM requirements and health and safety legislation is essential, alongside a proven record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

Experience working within integrated, multidisciplinary teams is particularly important, as is the ability to combine technical excellence with confident leadership, sound decision-making and a commitment to developing colleagues.
