Principal Structural Engineer

Manchester

£64k-£68k plus benefits

Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join its Manchester team, offering an outstanding opportunity to lead complex projects, influence technical direction and inspire the next generation of engineering talent.

This is a high-profile position for a Chartered Structural Engineer who combines exceptional technical knowledge with strong leadership and commercial awareness. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating structural design teams, overseeing project delivery and ensuring engineering solutions meet the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

Working across major projects and multiple design packages, you will provide technical direction from the early design stages through to completion. Your responsibilities will include reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and digital models, validating complex structural analysis, and ensuring designs are practical, coordinated and buildable.

Beyond technical delivery, you will oversee project resources, programmes and budgets, manage changes effectively and contribute to fee proposals, tenders and technical scopes. You will work closely with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary colleagues, helping to strengthen client relationships, drive innovation and identify opportunities to improve project performance. Mentoring engineers and developing team capabilities will also be central to your success.

Our client is looking for a degree-qualified, Chartered Engineer with CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE status and a strong track record of leading structural engineering teams within a consultancy environment. You will have an excellent understanding of UK structural design codes, technical assurance procedures and CDM responsibilities, alongside broad expertise in areas such as steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures, foundations, substructures, structural assessment and site investigations.

Experience in sectors such as aviation, defence, custodial or power would be particularly advantageous. Strong proficiency in structural analysis software, commercial project management skills and experience delivering complex work within multidisciplinary teams are essential. Candidates will also need a CSCS card, eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) and a full UK driving licence.

In return, our client offers the opportunity to take ownership of technically challenging, high-profile projects within a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering environment, with the scope to influence design standards, champion sustainable solutions and make a lasting contribution to the wider business.

If you are ready to step into a leading technical role where your expertise, leadership and commercial judgement can make a genuine difference, this Principal Structural Engineer opportunity in Manchester is well worth exploring.
