Job summary

Lonza seeks an experienced Principal Scientist to identify, evaluate and deploy emerging bioprocess technologies for controllable, automated, data-rich models across Integrated Biologics R&D. You will design experiments and translate needs into practical tech solutions, enabling reusable platforms for miniaturised upstream and downstream development.

Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in a relevant field and a strong science foundation.
Experience developing or evaluating bioprocess technologies or high-throughput platforms.
Ability to translate process-development needs into technical requirements.

Responsibilities

Identify technology gaps and deliver innovative bioprocess engineering solutions for enhanced control, automation and data generation.
Define technical requirements for sensors, automation, and experimental platforms, collaborating with internal teams.
Lead proof-of-concept studies to evaluate feasibility, robustness and scalability of emerging technologies.
Establish standardised approaches for model setup, automation, sampling, data capture and performance assessment.
Collaborate across Cell Expression, Upstream/Downstream Processing, Analytical Development, Automation, Digital, Data Science and PAT to integrate new tech into R&D.
Scout and introduce high-throughput bioprocessing technologies, miniaturisation, microfluidics and automated platforms.
