Job summary

Lloyds Banking Group is seeking a Senior Lead Engineer in Advanced Engineering to drive AI-enabled engineering initiatives across regulatory environments. You will lead teams, craft MVPs, and guide architecture and best practices in GenAI and AI agents.

The role sits in the Data & AI Unit within the CTO, offering hybrid work with at least two office days weekly across UK sites. Strong leadership and AI technical depth are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering production‑grade technology solutions in complex environments.
• Strong software engineering expertise across at least two languages and a track record of solving complex technical problems.
• Deep applied AI/ML and Generative AI experience, including retrieval‑augmented generation and AI agents.
• Experience with regulated environments, reliability, security, and explainability considerations.
• Ability to translate ambiguity into clear technical direction and scalable MVPs.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business and platform teams to identify priority problems and adoption bottlenecks, focusing on customer‑facing AI solutions that can operate effectively within a regulated environment.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and approaches through applied R&D, experimentation and rapid prototyping.
• Lead the engineering and delivery of operational MVPs addressing critical business challenges and scalable adoption.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor guiding engineering teams and stakeholders in GenAI and Agentic AI.
• Coach and mentor engineers to develop capability and adopt proven AI patterns and practices.
• Influence business and technology strategy by demonstrating the art of the possible and identifying AI opportunities.
