Job summary

Randstad Education Leeds is seeking dedicated support staff to assist young learners in a close-knit primary school in South Barnsley. You will work with a team focused on early literacy, outdoor learning, and team spirit to support students across key stages.

Role involves small-group interventions, assisting with activities, and supervising pupils during breaks and assemblies. DBS Update Service or willingness to obtain is required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in primary settings, nurseries, youth clubs or coaching.
  • GCSE English and Maths (C/4 or above) required.
  • Proactive, encouraging demeanor and strong communication abilities.
  • Enhanced DBS check registered on Update Service (or willing to obtain).
  • High adaptability across varied primary key stages.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver guided reading, phonics, and basic numeracy interventions to small groups.
  • Assist the class teacher with learning activities and displays.
  • Provide targeted support to pupils needing extra help with daily curriculum access.
  • Supervise pupils during breaks, assemblies and outdoor play.
  • Monitor participation and share feedback with the class teacher.

Requirements for the Role
  • Previous experience working with children (e.g. in primary schools, nurseries, youth clubs, or sports coaching).
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above).
  • A proactive, encouraging demeanor paired with strong communication capabilities.
  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or readiness to process one with us).
  • High adaptability when supporting varied primary key stages.
