Job summary

GSL Education are seeking a caring Primary Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in York from September. You will support pupils with additional needs, working closely with teachers to deliver personalised learning and promote wellbeing.

The role offers term-time, full-time hours with daily pay between £92 and £115, and an enhanced DBS. You will join a supportive team committed to safeguarding and helping each learner reach their potential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar education/support role.
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND/SEMH.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach with genuine passion for supporting young people.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
• Willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS via Update Service or apply for one through GSL Education.

Responsibilities

• Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and personalised learning activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs.
• Build positive relationships with pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
• Assist with social, emotional, and communication needs of pupils.
• Use strategies to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.
• Help with classroom organisation, resource preparation, and learning activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to achieve outcomes.
• Provide encouragement to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
