Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment seeks a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs in a primary setting. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and external agencies to promote wellbeing and academic progress.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, differentiating lessons, monitoring pupil progress, and contributing to IEPs and risk assessments in Walton, Surrey.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Proven experience supporting children with SEMH or SEND needs.
  • Strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication and empathy; able to stay calm under pressure.
  • DBS clearance (or eligibility to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH difficulties using agreed strategies.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and adapting resources.
  • Monitor and record pupil behaviour, progress, and attendance; contribute to IEPs and risk assessments.
  • Foster positive relationships and model coping skills and resilience.
  • Liaise with parents, staff, and external professionals to coordinate care.
  • Support SEMH policy implementation and safeguarding procedures.
  • Participate in CPD and team meetings.
