Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment in Salisbury is seeking a Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a specialist school.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, help pupils access learning, and work closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals. A calm, patient approach and commitment to inclusive education are essential to helping students thrive.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in school, care, youth work or similar settings.

Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant – Salisbury

Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire

Job Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Salary: £95-£100 per day (PAYE)

Axcis Education is seeking a Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Salisbury that supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This exciting opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in special educational needs (SEN), behaviour support, autism, ADHD, or trauma-informed practice. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships within a supportive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 Teaching Assistant support and small-group interventions.
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, and trauma-related needs.
  • Help students access learning and remain engaged throughout the school day.
  • Implement positive behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Encourage independence, communication skills, social development, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other education professionals to deliver personalised support plans.

Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, care, youth work, residential, or support setting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD, or behavioural needs is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for inclusive education and helping young people achieve their potential.
