Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a welcoming Birmingham primary school to recruit a School Nurse for a full-time, permanent role starting ASAP. The nurse will oversee pupils' health, provide medical care, administer medications and maintain confidential records throughout the school day.

Working closely with the Headteacher, teachers and clinicians, you will support health needs, contribute to safeguarding and promote well-being, helping pupils feel safe, cared for and ready to learn.

Qualifications

• Recognised nursing qualification and current NMC registration.
• Experience in nursing, healthcare or paediatric settings.
• Experience providing first aid and responding to medical concerns.
• Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and ongoing medical conditions.
• Ability to remain calm, reassuring and professional in emergencies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children and staff.
• Strong organisational skills and accurate medical records.
• Understanding of medication management and confidentiality.
• Compassionate, patient and approachable manner with safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and respond to illness, accidents and injuries.
• Assess pupils who become unwell and determine escalation needs.
• Administer prescribed medication per policy and consent.
• Support pupils with ongoing medical conditions and allergies.
• Maintain confidential medical records and health documentation.
• Develop and implement individual healthcare plans with families.
• Communicate health concerns with parents and carers.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure appropriate care.
• Promote hygiene, healthy lifestyles and health awareness.
• Manage medical emergencies and ensure procedures are followed.
• Monitor medical supplies and maintain first aid equipment.
• Guide staff on pupils' medical needs and safeguarding procedures.
• Ensure confidentiality and appropriate handling of medical information.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive environment where pupils can learn.
