Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is helping an outstanding primary school in Reading, Berkshire recruit an experienced Attendance Officer to join the support team from September 2026. You will work with school leaders, pastoral staff and parents to improve attendance and remove barriers to regular school attendance.

Responsibilities include monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, following up unexplained absences, contacting parents, identifying patterns in data, supporting improvement plans,

Qualifications

• Experience as Attendance Officer or in school administration, pastoral support or safeguarding is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive information professionally.
• Confident when discussing attendance with parents and carers.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily attendance and punctuality.
• Follow up unexplained and persistent absence.
• Contact parents and carers regarding attendance concerns.
• Identify patterns and trends in attendance data.
• Support attendance interventions and improvement plans.
• Maintain accurate attendance records.
• Prepare attendance reports for senior leaders.
• Work with pastoral and safeguarding teams.
• Liaise with external agencies as appropriate.
• Support attendance policies and statutory requirements.
