Job summary

The Derby High School is seeking an Attendance Officer to lead the attendance service, monitor pupil attendance, and work with families and external agencies to improve attendance and reduce persistent absence.

You will analyse attendance data, maintain records, and support reintegration after absences while collaborating with school staff and the Local Authority to meet safeguarding and welfare objectives.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Good ICT skills, including Word and Excel.
• Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and working with young people.
• Driving licence and ability to travel locally.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pupil attendance and punctuality and take appropriate follow-up action.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and families to identify barriers to attendance and support improvement.
• Coordinate attendance interventions with colleagues and external agencies.
• Undertake meetings and home visits where appropriate.
• Monitor and support pupils experiencing persistent absence or difficulties engaging with school.
• Analyse attendance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and produce reports for school leaders.
• Support reintegration arrangements for pupils following absences.
• Liaise with Local Authority and other agencies regarding attendance and pupil circumstances.
• Contribute to safeguarding and welfare through attendance monitoring and appropriate action.
