Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting Behaviour Support Assistants to support primary schools in Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas from September 2026. We welcome applications from experienced Teaching Assistants as well as those with backgrounds in behaviour support, youth work, care, mentoring or working with children and young people.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with behavioural, social or emotional challenges, helping them build positive relationships,

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
• Experience with behaviour, SEMH, SEND, or additional needs is advantageous.
• Experience in education, youth work, care, mentoring, or support work is welcomed.
• A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with behavioural needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, independence, and social skills.
• Implement individual behaviour and support strategies.
• Support pupils to access learning and engage positively within the classroom.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and other professionals.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in pupil behaviour.
• Use positive and consistent strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
• Support pupils during challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.
