Job summary

West Midlands Police is recruiting a Prevent Case Officer within the Counter Terrorism Unit. The role involves regional travel across the CT policing West Midlands area, with a 37.5-hour week, based in offices near Birmingham International Airport.

You will reassure vulnerable groups, drive the Prevent agenda, manage case work, conduct vulnerability assessments and deliver sensitive briefings. A full driving licence is required and security clearance is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with Prevent partners in local authorities, schools, higher and further educational institutions, faith institutions and organisations, the health sector, the prison and probation service.
  • Gathering and disseminating information including community tensions relating to CT issues, developing plans and identifying joint actions to address any issues.
  • Acting in support of frontline staff and as a community contact on consequence management issues.
  • Working with police and community partners to develop and deliver proactive communications in advance of terrorism-related operations.
  • Providing tactical advice to CT Senior Investigating Officer’s on Prevent options and capability.
  • Engaging and signposting individuals vulnerable to radicalisation into appropriate support mechanisms, such as Channel.
  • Identifying community intervention providers who can provide advice and support to individuals vulnerable to radicalisation.
  • Conducting individual Risk Assessments to determine Susceptibility to Radicalisation in line with National processes.
  • Working with Corporate Communications, the SIO, stakeholders and partners to deliver key messages of Consequence Management plans.

The West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit is at the forefront of helping to protect the UK from terrorist attacks. Our Prevent team works to build relationships with all members of the community including enhancing links with key organisations.

This is a regional role involving travel across the Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands area (including Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Mercia).

This role is based in our modern offices near to the Birmingham International Airport. You will work Monday to Friday, between the core hours of 07:00 – 16:00 but an element of flexibility is necessary to meet operational requirements.

The role

As a Prevent Case Officer, you will reassure vulnerable groups, potentially impacting the underlying causes of terrorism and diminishing support for terrorists.

You will drive and deliver the Prevent agenda across the wider policing family, facilitating engagement with policing teams, partner organisations and communities.

You will be responsible for case management enquiries, conducting vulnerability assessments, de-briefing interviews and delivery of case management tactics, as well as delivering sensitive briefings and presentations internally and externally.

You will have the skills and motivation to be part of an evolving, dedicated team serving diverse communities. Prior experience of safeguarding is therefore advantageous.

Additional information

You will need a full, clean, driving licence as you may be required to travel across the region.

Security Clearance

This post requires British nationality (some dual nationalities may be ineligible) and Security Check vetting clearance.

You will need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all of the necessary security clearances.

There are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.
