Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking a Preconstruction Manager for Major Projects to join the growing team in the UK. This senior role leads early project development, coordinating design, planning, estimation, and commercial input to develop robust delivery strategies.

You will work with internal teams, clients and suppliers to shape projects from opportunity through to construction, ensuring buildable solutions and clear methodologies.

Preconstruction Manager - Major Projects

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join the major projects team of an established and growing construction business.

With a strong pipeline of long-term work and significant growth planned over the coming years, this is an opportunity to join a preconstruction function that is continuing to expand.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in developing projects from the earliest stages, bringing together design, engineering, planning, programming, estimating and commercial input to develop robust and deliverable project solutions.

The Role

This is a broad preconstruction position with involvement across the full project development process.

You’ll work closely with internal teams, clients, consultants and supply chain partners to develop projects from initial opportunity through to construction.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the preconstruction development of projects from concept through to delivery
• Coordinating design and engineering development
• Working with planning and programming teams to develop effective delivery strategies
• Overseeing estimating, costing and commercial development
• Reviewing designs with a focus on buildability, programme and risk
• Developing construction methodologies and project strategies
• Coordinating technical, commercial, procurement and operational input
• Working with clients, consultants and supply chain partners throughout the project development process
• Identifying risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions
• Supporting tender submissions and client presentations
• Taking ownership of projects through the preconstruction phase and ensuring they are properly developed before reaching site

About You

We’re looking for an experienced preconstruction professional who can demonstrate a strong understanding of the project development process.

Your background doesn’t have to be exclusively within heavy civils. The ideal candidate could have developed their career across a range of construction and infrastructure environments, including:

• Civil engineering
• Utilities
• Rail
• Housing
• Infrastructure
• Design & build
• Framework delivery

You may currently be working as a Senior Preconstruction Manager, Preconstruction Manager, Senior Bid Manager or similar, with proven experience taking projects through the early development and tender stages.

What’s important is that you have genuine preconstruction experience and are confident coordinating the technical, design, planning, programming and commercial aspects of a project.

You’ll be someone who can take ownership, challenge proposals constructively and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to develop practical, commercially viable solutions.
