Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking a Pre-Construction Manager to help shape early-stage concepts into buildable, commercially sound proposals for major projects. You’ll join a growing team, collaborating with designers, engineers and estimators to ensure the plan stacks up before construction begins.

You could come from a pre-construction background or a site/engineering role with strong delivery understanding, and you’ll be encouraged to take on increasing ownership as you grow.

Qualifications

• Background in civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, rail, housing or related construction environments.
• Experience on live projects and understanding practical challenges on site and in front-end delivery.
• Focus on potential and fit for pre-construction over a specific pre-construction title.

Responsibilities

• Get involved in projects from early-stage development and tender through to handover to delivery teams.
• Review drawings, specifications and other technical information to ensure buildability.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers and estimators to develop practical, cost-efficient solutions.
• Identify risks, opportunities and sequencing issues early in the pre-construction phase.
• Support tender preparation and client proposals with accurate input and buildable plans.
• Attend meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders to align on scope and delivery.

Pre-Construction Manager

If you're a construction professional who enjoys understanding how projects come together - and you're ready to have more influence over what happens before work starts on site - this could be an excellent next step.

We're looking for a Pre-Construction Manager to join a growing major projects team, working on a range of significant construction and infrastructure projects.

This is a role with plenty of variety. You'll be involved in projects at an early stage, helping to turn initial concepts and client requirements into practical, buildable and commercially sound proposals.

Importantly, we're not looking for someone who has spent their entire career in pre-construction.

You could already be working in pre-construction and looking to take the next step, but equally, you might be a Site Engineer, Project Engineer or other construction professional who has developed a solid understanding of how projects are delivered and now wants to move into the front end of the process.

What you'll be doing

You will become part of the team responsible for getting projects ready to build.

Working with colleagues across the business, you'll help develop solutions, test proposals and make sure the detail behind a project stacks up before it reaches site.

Your day-to-day involvement could include:

• Getting involved in projects from early-stage development and tender through to handover to the delivery team
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and other technical information
• Working with designers and engineers to develop practical solutions
• Looking at how proposed works could be constructed and identifying potential issues early
• Assisting with construction programmes, methodologies and sequencing
• Working with estimators and commercial teams to understand costs and project requirements
• Helping identify project risks, opportunities and potential efficiencies
• Engaging with specialist subcontractors and suppliers to develop solutions and obtain input
• Supporting the preparation of tenders and client proposals
• Attending meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders
• Bringing your site and construction experience into discussions around buildability and delivery
• Supporting the transition of projects from pre-construction into construction
• As your experience grows, you'll be given increasing ownership of projects and greater responsibility for coordinating the various technical and commercial elements.

What we're looking for

We're more interested in your understanding of construction and your potential than whether your CV contains a specific pre-construction job title.

A background in civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, rail, housing or another construction environment would all be relevant.

You’ll ideally have experience of working on live projects and understand the practical challenges involved in getting work built safely, efficiently and to programme.
