Job summary

Willmott Dixon is seeking a Preconstruction Director for our Construction South region. The role oversees preconstruction, bidding and commercial strategy to ensure profitable projects with robust governance and resource planning. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, build client networks and drive sustainable growth.

The role requires delivering commercially robust bids, protecting margins and guiding governance across the bid lifecycle while fostering talent and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience leading pre-construction, bidding, estimating or commercial functions within construction.
• Strong network of customers, consultants and industry contacts.
• Ability to balance short-term priorities with long-term business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure every project leaves preconstruction with a clearly defined route to margin.
• Oversee development of viable pricing strategies, risk allowances, programme assumptions and commercial plans.
• Drive early identification and mitigation of commercial risks and delivery challenges.
• Lead planning and management of pre-construction resources to support business needs.
• Provide independent challenge and governance across bids from opportunity to submission.
• Present clear, evidence-based recommendations to support decisions.
• Influence business strategy using commercial insights and performance data.
