Job summary

Webber Hughes Ltd in Ashton-under-Lyne is seeking a skilled Manual Vertical Borer Setter/Operator to produce medium to heavy engineering components from customer drawings. You will set up machines, select tooling and methods, and self-inspect parts to ensure tight tolerances.

Applicants with a strong turning background and experience reading engineering drawings will be considered. The role includes overtime, with pay between £17.00 and £19.00 per hour and a company pension.

Qualifications

• Proven experience setting and operating manual Vertical Boring machines or strong turning background.
• Experience reading engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Experience machining medium to heavy workpieces.
• Ability to select tooling and machining methods.
• Good understanding of cutting speeds, feeds and tooling.
• Ability to work accurately to engineering tolerances.
• Ability to self-inspect completed work.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment.
• Strong safety awareness in a machine shop.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate manual Vertical Boring machines.
• Read and interpret customer drawings and specifications.
• Determine machining methods, tooling, speeds and feeds.
• Set and secure workpieces safely and accurately.
• Select and set cutting tools.
• Machine medium to heavy workpieces to tolerances.
• Monitor the machining process and adjust as required.
• Carry out self-inspection of components.
• Complete production and inspection documentation.
• Maintain machinery, tooling and the working area safely.
