Job summary

Beard & Fitch Ltd is seeking a committed Gear Cutter / Gear Cutting Machinist to join their engineering team. The role involves setting up gear-cutting machinery and manufacturing precision gears from engineering drawings to demanding specifications.

Applicants should have experience in gear cutting or gear manufacturing, along with proficiency in gear hobbing, shaping or similar processes. Strong measurement skills and attention to detail are essential for this hands-on position.

Qualifications

• Experience in gear cutting or gear manufacturing to a high standard.
• Experience operating gear hobbing, shaping or similar machinery.
• Solid understanding of precision engineering and machining processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience working to tight tolerances and high quality standards.
• Skilled with micrometers, verniers and gauges for measurement.
• Good knowledge of cutting tools, materials and machining techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate gear-cutting machinery.
• Manufacture precision gears and mechanical components from drawings.
• Carry out gear hobbing, shaping or similar operations as needed.
• Select and prepare cutting tools and equipment.
• Work to tight tolerances and maintain quality.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and specs.
• Inspect finished components with precision measuring equipment.
• Make machine adjustments to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Identify and resolve machining issues, maintaining a safe environment.
• Work independently and within a team to meet production targets.
