Job summary

The Clever Fish Recruitment seeks a skilled CNC Machinist to join a university workshop in Manchester. You will produce precision components from engineering drawings using conventional and CNC machines, and generate CAM toolpaths from SolidWorks models.

The role supports teaching and research, with variety in one‑offs and small batches. We expect experience with turning/milling, an appropriate mechanical engineering qualification, and the ability to work independently within a team while

Qualifications

• Experience as CNC machinist with lathe, mill and CNC centers.
• Experience on turning and milling machines with tight tolerances.
• Produces precision components from engineering drawings.
• Mechanical engineering qualification (ONC/HNC/HND or equivalent).
• Apprentice trained and able to work independently or in a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; deadline awareness.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture precision components and small assemblies from drawings.
• Operate conventional and CNC machines and set tools.
• Create toolpaths using CAM software from SolidWorks models.
• Support teaching and research activities in the workshop.
• Maintain safety and good housekeeping in the workshop.
