Join University Hospitals Dorset as a preceptor midwife and make an impact in maternity care for families in Dorset. We would like to invite applications from newly qualified midwives to join our midwifery team at University Hospitals Dorset. We will be running a Recruitment Day on (Provisional Date) Saturday 5th July 2025. This is an opportunity for you to meet the team, have a tour of the unit and undertake some recruitment activities to include an interview.
Our Maternity Service provides a full range of midwifery care for families in East Dorset. The service delivers care to in excess of 4000 women per annum. Join us at an exciting time at our new location in the newly built "BEACH Building".
As a preceptor programme midwife at UHD, you will be fully supported by the Practice Education Team for the 21 month preceptor programme. This will enable you to build up essential midwifery competencies in home birth, waterbirth skills, suturing , cannulation and care of high risk women. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of the maternity service.
On completion of your probationary period you will move to midpoint band 5 and on completion of competencies and rotation, you will have a gateway conversation with a senior member of the team to be appointed as a band 6 midwife.
The service includes a high risk labour ward alongside dedicated operating theatres and high dependency rooms. The maternity service offers an alongside midwife led unit that has 6 ensuite delivery rooms, incorporating birthing pools. There is an on call home birth service for the delivery of care to women who wish to give birth at home. In addition, the service offers a traditional model of midwifery care with separate teams for the acute and community service.
