Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available in our Eye Outpatients for a band six junior sister/charge nurse post.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who demonstrates great professionalism, has leadership skills they would like to further develop and wants to be a part of a growing team. The right candidate will be integral to the growth of the team and the service. This is a full-time position part-time might be considered for the right candidate. Eye Outpatients department provides a positive work life balance with clinics currently running from Monday to Saturday.

Main Duties

  • To be responsible for assisting Senior Sister in the management of Eye outpatients in both Southampton and Lymington, ensuring high standards of care are maintained and available resources are utilise effectively.
  • demonstrate clinical expertise acting as a role model within the clinical specialty
  • facilitate a good learning environment for staff and learners
  • supervise the professional work of nursing staff and exercise good leadership skills
  • support the team to monitor the quality of patient care and participate in the regular evaluation of patient satisfaction
  • Act as a mentor to new staff learners and post registration student
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff
  • Empower the team to highlight the areas for change and development

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Eye outpatient is a dynamic department that continues to change and develop. This requires the successful applicant to be flexible, forward thinking and have the skills to motivate and empower the team.

The ability to supervise, teach, empower and coach staff it’s essential for this role.

We are looking for an experienced, dedicated nurse who is looking to further their management development and gain/develop leadership skills in a supportive environment.

The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, professional, flexible, trustworthy, and a positive role model. Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
