Job summary

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician for a 2-year fixed-term contract. This role involves completing an accredited apprenticeship while gaining experience across various pharmacy services, preparing candidates for registration with the GPhC.

Qualifications

  • 4 GCSEs including Maths, English & Science required.
  • Completion of Level 2 Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy procedures and roles.

We are delighted to offer this fixed term opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individual to become part of the pharmacy workforce at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) based at King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) site.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will complete a GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) recognised accredited qualification (apprenticeship) that will result in the post holder being able to register with the GPhC as a qualified Pharmacy Technician. The qualification will be a mixture of studying and showing competence within the workplace and successful candidates will be required to participate in a rotational training programme. These rotations include patient services, distribution, aseptics, clinical services and outpatient pharmacy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The programme will consist of practical training through a structured placement plan within the hospital pharmacy services to gain experience and undergo competence assessments under the supervision of registered Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in accordance with the policies and procedures of each rotation.

The candidate will also acquire the necessary knowledge to support practical training through an assigned education course provider. The candidate is expected to maintain sufficient progress and meet the requirements of the learning agreements which will be signed and agreed by the trainee, education course provider and the workplace.

The successful candidate will also be required to:

  • Work in an environment that will support patients with their medications, managing the supply of medicines manufacturing of sterile products and assisting Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Demonstrate that they have a passion for a career in pharmacy, are patient focused, have good interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to the training programme and keen to get involved in hospital life.
  • Having the ability to cope with the discipline of studying whilst working as part of a team across this busy department is essential; therefore, a professional approach is key.

Qualifications
  • 4 GCSEs- to include Maths, English & Science – Grade C/4 or above this can include level 2 functional skills
  • Level 2 Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification (completed only)
Experience & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of procedures for pharmacy services
  • Knowledge of the different pharmacy roles
Skills and Competencies
  • Be able to organise and plan own day to day work and activities
  • Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients
  • To have basic keyboard and computer skills
  • Willing to learn and share knowledge with others
  • Be able to organise and prioritise own work load and learning
