Job summary

Vertiv in Campsie, Northern Ireland or UAE is seeking a Pre-Order MV SWGR Mechanical Designer to collaborate with the EMEA Sales Team and product management on medium voltage switchgear from a mechanical design perspective.

The role includes initial mechanical design and estimating to support quotes, coordinating with the Unify controls/relay design, and aligning with procurement and R&D as needed. Travel not specified.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in MV SWGR, supply chain, cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in Excel; Smartsheet and Power BI beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer designs with MV SWGR estimating team and support CDE process.
• Provide design feedback to product management for roadmaps.
• Prepare Mechanical GA and designs to support pre-order quotations.
• Coordinate transformer close coupling and MV integration with other Vertiv solutions.
• Collaborate with MV Breaker and MV Relay suppliers for performance characteristics.
• Support procurement with MV components analysis for cost-effective supply chains.
• Assist R&D with FAT plans; emphasize seismic, heat rise, short circuit testing.
• Develop VAVE alternatives to maximize quality vs price.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pre-Order MV SWGR Designer Mechanical - IEC is responsible for partnering with the EMEA Sales Team and the IEC SWGR product management team when looking at Medium Voltage Switchgear opportunities from an overall mechanical design point of view. The Pre-Order MV SWGR Mechanical Design - IEC will analyze and do the initial mechanical design / estimating, working closely with the EMEA pricing team, to come up with an estimate to support the quote to a customer. This includes partnering with the Vertiv Unify team to understand the controls and relay design for the overall system (considering the location of control equipment). The position will be located in Campsie Northern Ireland or Ras Al-Khaimah United Arab Emirates co-located with the MV SWGR IEC Order Engineering Teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with the MV SWGR estimating team (pricing) to analyze the customer’s design requirements and support the CDE (Comply, Deviate, Exception) Process.
• Based on what’s observed via the CDE process provide design feedback and trends to the MV SWGR – IEC product management team so that the product portfolio roadmaps can be adjusted accordingly based on market trends.
• Pre-pare Mechanical General Arrangements and Designs to support the pre-order quotation process (such as panel schedules, footprint and elevations drawings) that would ultimately be the basis of design assuming the order is won.
• Pre-Order Engineering for transformer close coupling as well as integration with other Vertiv solutions working in conjunction with MV SWGR.
• Work with Vertiv’s MV Breaker and MV Relay suppliers to understand performance characteristics that are to be incorporated into the ultimate Vertiv solution. Planning for footprint considerations.
• Support Vertiv Procurement on MV Component analysis supporting the most competitive supply chains for Vertiv. Special emphasis on Mechanical Considerations.
• If required support MV SWGR R&D with the writing of FAT plans (factory acceptance test) for the quote process and ultimate execution. Special emphasis placed on seismic, heat rise and short circuit testing.
• Provide and design VAVE alternatives (value add / value engineer) so that Vertiv MV SWGR quotes support the highest quality solution at the most competitive market price.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Job Qualifications:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience in product engineering, manufacturing or marketing in the MV SWGR space.
• Masters in Mechanical Engineering always beneficial but not required.
• Demonstratable experience in Engineering / Supply Chain or Manufacturing Operations and working with cross-functional teams to identify and execute on priority actions.
• Ability to drive and accept change, continuous improvement processes.
• Must have demonstratable skills with Microsoft office applications, particularly Excel. Smartsheet and Power BI experience beneficial. AutoCAD, Solid Works and Creo experience beneficial as well.
• Ability to directly interface with Customers and Sales, at the executive and technical levels, required.
• Experience leading cross functional meetings and presenting to small groups, both in person and via digital conference calls (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)
• NPDI (New Product Development Introduction) and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Experience
• Demonstrated curiosity and a lifelong learner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Comfortable working autonomously.
• Experience in introducing new processes to an existing organization.
• Demonstrated competence in problem solving, data analysis, & project management
• Direct experience in MV SWGR IEC certification
• Direct experience with low voltage and medium voltage components like circuit breaker, transformers, metering, arc flash mitigation equipment, etc.
