Job summary

St John & St Elizabeth Hospital in London is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Pre-assessment service. The role focuses on safe, efficient pre-operative care across multiple surgical specialties, with emphasis on accurate health records and patient-centred care.

The successful candidate will hold an adult NMC registration, a nursing diploma or degree, and have post-registration qualifications with at least 3 years of nursing experience, ideally in nurse-led pre-assessment services.

Qualifications

• RN with valid NMC registration (Adult).
• Post-registration qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform Pre-Assessment for a caseload of surgical patients.
• Take targeted medical histories and assess anaesthetic risk.
• Complete tests following NICE guidelines and initiate referrals as needed.
• Carry out venepuncture, ECG, lung function testing and request x-rays as required.
• Review prior anaesthetic documentation and determine referrals to anaesthetist.
• Follow up on referral outcomes to ensure fitness for surgery.
• Provide patient, carer and staff support and information.
• Utilise Lifebox pre-assessment software to maintain accurate health records.
• Adhere to NMC Code of Conduct and hospital policies.
