Job summary

VANRATH is seeking a Pre-Construction Manager to lead the estimating team and drive detailed, competitive bids for high-value projects. You will oversee bid programmes, chair tender progress meetings, and collaborate with commercial and project teams to mitigate risks and secure advantageous tender positions.

The role requires proven estimating experience on construction projects, strong leadership, and ability to engage with senior stakeholders in a live, multi-sector environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, or a similar discipline.
• Proven experience on construction projects, preferably fit-out/refurbishment.
• Skilled in estimating software packages with bid accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the estimating team to meet business objectives.
• Oversee preparation of detailed bids, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
• Develop bid programmes, chair tender progress meetings, and communicate updates.
• Analyse risks and opportunities with commercial/project teams to address them.
• Review contract documentation and establish favourable tender positions.
• Manage tenders from conception through to award and transition to delivery.
• Support new business development with key clients and partners.

About you

• Relevant qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, or a similar discipline
• Proven experience working on construction projects, preferably in fit-out and refurbishment sectors
• Skilled in estimating software packages, with the ability to produce accurate, timely bids
• Experience managing tender processes from conception through to award
• Strong leadership skills with prior experience leading and developing teams
• Confident communicator capable of engaging with colleagues and senior stakeholders
• Knowledge of various tendering methods including two-stage, single-stage, and negotiated bids
• Good understanding of construction cost management and contract review processes
• Member of RICS, CIOB, or equivalent professional body is desirable but not essential
