Job summary

Lancer Scott is seeking a senior estimator/pre-construction lead to drive tender strategy for high-profile projects. Based in Bristol, you will manage pre-construction activities, develop cost plans, and coordinate with design teams, clients and suppliers to submit compliant, competitive tenders.

You will mentor estimators, manage deadlines, and deliver clear management reports. Strong commercial judgement, construction knowledge, and proficiency in Conquest or similar tools, plus MS 365, are

Qualifications

• Substantial estimating and pre-construction experience within a main contracting environment.
• Strong contractual and commercial awareness with tender conditions, employer's requirements, amendments and risk.
• Analytical estimating, cost planning, subcontractor and supplier enquiry skills.
• Understand construction methodology, sequencing, procurement, risk and handover.
• Ability to manage deadlines and coordinate internal teams, designers and supply chain.
• Leadership to mentor estimators and pre-construction staff, with strong client-facing and negotiation skills.
• Maintain tender records, historical cost information and management reporting.
• Proficient in MS 365 applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
• Experience with Conquest estimating software and knowledge of Asta Powerproject advantageous.
• Relevant construction qualifications or accreditation are advantageous.
• Sound commercial judgement and collaborative communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, coordination and timely submission of compliant, competitive tenders.
• Review opportunities at enquiry stage and advise on strategic fit, risks and approach.
• Develop analytical estimates, cost plans and pricing schedules with resources and allowances.
• Coordinate inquiries to design consultants, subcontractors and suppliers; compare quotes and maintain supplier relationships.
• Plan tender programmes and logistics against financial allowances and risks.
• Collaborate with design, commercial, operational and SHEQ teams to reflect buildability and procurement in the tender.
• Attend site visits, tender interviews and client meetings; maintain stakeholder relationships.
• Maintain tender cost history and market intelligence; provide management reports and forecasts.
• Manage estimating workload and deadlines; lead tender launch/reviews and governance.
