Job summary

Matchtech is representing a leading engineering contractor delivering electrical infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK. A hybrid Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical) role supports development from initial enquiry through to handover, collaborating with engineering, commercial and operations teams.

The position covers bid work, technical assessments and value engineering, with exposure to major power and renewables projects and senior stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in power, utilities, renewables or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Background with engineering contractors, utility contractors, or renewables.
• Strong understanding of HV/LV systems and electrical drawings.
• Experience supporting bids, tenders or pre-construction activities.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 and UK electrical standards.
• Familiarity with NEC contracts.
• Commercial awareness and stakeholder management.
• Experience with estimating or quantity take-off software is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review client specifications, drawings and connection requirements for tenders and proposals.
• Identify technical risks, scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions and compliance requirements.
• Develop electrical scopes covering HV/LV, protection, control, earthing, containment and cabling.
• Produce compliance and deviation schedules and manage technical queries throughout the tender process.
• Complete quantity take-offs and support project cost estimates.
• Work with commercial teams to develop accurate tender submissions.
• Prepare subcontract packages including testing, commissioning and quality requirements.
• Define project interfaces, responsibilities and inspection requirements.
• Review supplier and subcontractor quotations and support technical evaluations.
• Support handovers by communicating key assumptions, risks and technical requirements to delivery teams.
• Contribute to value engineering and alternative technical solutions.

Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical)

Our client is a leading engineering contractor delivering electrical infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Pre-Construction Engineer (Electrical) to support the development of energy and power infrastructure schemes from initial enquiry through to project handover.

This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work closely with engineering, commercial and operational teams, ensuring projects are technically compliant, commercially robust and ready for successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Review client specifications, technical documentation, drawings and connection requirements for tenders and proposals.
• Identify technical risks, scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions and compliance requirements.
• Develop electrical scopes of work covering HV and LV systems, protection, control, earthing, containment and cabling.

Requirements

• Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience within power, utilities, renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Background working for an engineering contractor, utility contractor, infrastructure provider or renewable energy organisation.
• Strong understanding of HV and LV systems, electrical drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience supporting bids, tenders, proposals or pre-construction activities.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 and UK electrical industry standards.
• Familiarity with NEC contracts.
• Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with estimating or quantity take-off software would be advantageous.
• Chartered status or progress towards professional registration would be beneficial.
