Job summary

Locum Ready is seeking a Locum Practice Nurse to work for a GP practice in North Shields. This role focuses on delivering chronic disease reviews, treatment room duties, and routine nursing clinics within a structured primary care environment.

You will contribute to high-quality patient care through clinical reviews, preventative health work and efficient clinic delivery. Regular or ad-hoc sessions with long-term bookings are available.

Qualifications

• NMC-registered Nurse with experience in primary care.
• Enhanced DBS clearance is desirable.
• Confident in chronic disease management and treatment room work.
• Familiar with EMIS, SystmOne or Vision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct chronic disease reviews for patients with asthma, COPD, diabetes or hypertension.
• Carry out wound care, dressings and routine treatment room duties.
• Administer immunisations (where trained) and smear tests.
• Perform NHS Health Checks and lifestyle assessments.
• Document clearly in the clinical system and manage recalls.

You will contribute to high-quality patient care through a balance of clinical reviews, preventative health work and treatment room activity. The practice offers well-organised workflows, supportive nursing leadership and a clear structure for daily clinic delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting chronic disease reviews for patients with asthma, COPD, diabetes or hypertension
• Performing wound care, dressings and treatment room duties
• Carrying out adult and children’s immunisations (if trained)
• Undertaking smear tests (cytology-trained nurses)
• Completing NHS Health Checks and lifestyle assessments
• Managing results, recalls and routine follow-up tasks
• Documenting clearly in the clinical system

Requirements

• NMC-registered Nurse with experience in primary care
• Up-to-date immunisation and cytology training desirable
• Confident in chronic disease management and treatment room-work
• Good patient communication and clinical reasoning
• Familiarity with EMIS, SystmOne or Vision
• Enhanced DBS
