Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in Kendal is seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to join our flexible, as-needed bank team. You will deliver core practice nursing duties and support service demand, including holiday and sickness cover, in a friendly, local GP setting.

The role covers immunisations, travel health, injections, cervical smears, wound care, phlebotomy, and vaccination campaigns. Work independently within your scope and contribute to high‑quality, evidence‑based care in

Qualifications

• Experience of working as a practice nurse
• Knowledge of immunisations and vaccination schedules
• Ability to work independently within the GP/practice setting
• Strong infection prevention and patient safety focus

Responsibilities

• Provide childhood immunisations and routine injections.
• Conduct cervical cytology and travel health immunisations.
• Perform phlebotomy and wound care, including dressings.
• Record accurate clinical notes and manage pathology requests.
• Support seasonal vaccination campaigns and service demand during holidays/sickness.

We are looking to expand our Bank Nursing Team and are seeking an experienced, motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive practice on a flexible, as-needed basis., Flexible bank sessions to support service demand, including holiday and sickness cover and seasonal vaccinations. You will be expected to work independently and confidently across a range of core practice nursing duties., The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas including

• Childhood Immunisations
• Travel health and immunisations
• Routine injections (e.g. B12, depot)
• Cervical smears
• Wound care and dressings
• Seasonal vaccinations
• Phlebotomy
• Childhood Immunisations

• Seasonal flu/ Covid vaccinations
• Phlebotomy, Experience of working as a practice nurse, Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
• cervical cytology
• Venepuncture
• Chaperone procedure
• Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly
• Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel)
• Understanding the importance of evidence based practice
• Broad knowledge of clinical governance
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes
• Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs
• Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
• Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
• Understand the requirement for PGDs and associated policy, Travel medicine
• Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
• Knowledge of health promotion strategies Based in Kendal, in the heart of the South Lakes
• Training practice with a strong focus on quality care and staff wellbeing
• Active involvement in our local Primary Care Network
• Committed to reducing unnecessary workload and improving systems

Rate £23.53 per hour inclusive of holiday allowance, depending on experience and responsibilities.
