Meltham Road Surgery is seeking a Practice Nurse to join our hard working, caring and friendly team. Duties include childhood immunisations, long term condition management, travel vaccinations, wound care and general nursing tasks.

Applicants should be registered as a General Nurse with ongoing professional development; knowledge of SystmOne is an advantage. The post offers approx. 25 hours per week and salary equivalent to AFC 5/6 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered General Nurse with ongoing professional development.
• GP practice nurse experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of SystmOne is advantageous.
• Interest or experience in diabetes care and cytology desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
• Cytology and removal of sutures, travel clinic, ECGs and spirometry.
• Venepuncture, immunisations and travel vaccinations.
• Chaperoning patients and assisting GPs with minor procedures.
• Maintain records and participate in practice meetings; home visits when required.

Job summary An opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our hard working, caring and friendly practice. Duties may include: childhood immunisations, long term condition management, smoking cessation, travel vaccinations, wound management and general nursing duties.

Salary: Equivalent to Afc 5/6 - Depending on experience

Approx. 25 hours / week.

Main duties of the job The ideal candidate will be up to date and competent in delivering a wide range of essential clinical services.

An interest or experience in diabetes care & cytology is desirable.

About us Training practice with 5 GP Partners, 3 part-time practice nurses, 1 Advanced clinical practitioner as well as a full team of administrative staff. Ideally candidates should be familiar/ or have knowledge of the Systm-one computer system. Full training, mentoring and support will be given for all aspects of this post.

Job responsibilities

• Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
• Cytology
• Removal of Sutures
• Travel Clinic
• ECGs
• Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
• Venepuncture
• Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
• Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
• Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
• Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
• Interest in Diabetes or coronary heart disease and Contraception.
• Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Other tasks will include

• Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
• Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
• Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
• Ordering of stock
• Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
• Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
• At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
• A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
• Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
• On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
• Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Qualifications

Essential

• You will need to be a Registered General Nurse, have evidence of continued professional development.
• GP practice nurse experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of the SystmOne clinical system an advantage.
• An interest or experience in diabetes care & cytology is desirable.
