Job summary

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Primary School is seeking a dedicated educator to assume responsibility for the education, safety and wellbeing of the children in the class, promoting Catholic values within the curriculum.

You will support the class teacher to plan, prepare and deliver the curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum, School policies and individual needs, assess progress and provide reports to parents and relevant agencies, contributing to a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the education, safety and wellbeing of the children in the class.
  • Develop pupils’ awareness of the Catholic faith within the religious education framework and community links.
  • Support the class teacher to plan, prepare and deliver the curriculum in line with the National Curriculum and school policies.
  • Follow guidance from Subject Leaders when planning to ensure consistent approaches and development opportunities.
  • Assess individual needs and plan accordingly.
  • Regularly review pupil progress and maintain records for handover to future teachers and relevant agencies.
  • Provide written reports for parents, future teachers and Educational Psychologists as required.
  • Use classroom time to develop social skills, imagination and self-confidence through varied recording methods and displays.
  • Organise the classroom to maintain good order and a stimulating environment respecting each other’s needs.
  • Build relationships with parents through meetings to discuss progress and home learning integration.
  • Collaborate in team meetings and participate in policy formulation and professional development.
  • Adhere to responsibilities in the Staff Handbook and Performance Management Policy.

Job description

1. Assume responsibility for the education, safety and wellbeing of the children in the class.

2. Develop pupils’ awareness of the Catholic faith within theoverall religious education and view of the world in which they live, andcontinue to promote positive links with the Parish and Community.

3. Support the class teacher to plan, prepare and deliver the curriculum in line with theNational Curriculum requirements and with due regard to School policies,Mission Statement and individual children’s needs.

4. Follow advice given by Subject Leaders when planningprogrammes of work for children, to ensure that they experience a commonapproach and are provided with the best opportunities for their development.

5. Assess the needs of individual children and plan for thoseneeds.

6. Regularly review the progress of the children and thus theeffectiveness of the planning and teaching methods and keep appropriate recordsof pupils’ progress which can be passed on to future teachers and otherrelevant agencies.

7. Provide written reports for parents, future teachers and theEducational Psychologist when required.

8. Use the classroom and learning process to develop the socialskills, imagination and self confidence of the children ensuring that theyexperience a variety of ways of recording their work, including the productionof work for class and school displays.

9. Organise the classroom such that good order and disciplineis maintained within a stimulating environment where children learn to respecteachother’s needs.

10. Build relationships with parents throughformal and informal meetings so they understand the progress their children aremaking and how they can integrate ‘home’ learning with school activities.

11. Work as part of a team, attend andparticipate in curriculum, administrative and organisational meetings. Participate in arrangements for furthertraining and continuing professional development and take an active role in theformulation of school policies.

12. Adhere to the responsibilities laid downin the Staff Handbook and the requirements of the Performance ManagementPolicy.
