Job summary

Shustoke CofE Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic primary teacher to join our team. You will deliver lessons in line with the National Curriculum, ensure pupils progress through structured planning and assessment, and uphold safeguarding and Health & Safety policies.

You will continue to meet the requirements for Qualified Teacher Status and contribute to a supportive, collaborative school ethos, engaging with families and staff to promote high standards of learning.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Foundation Stage and National Curriculum.
  • Understanding of the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.
  • Awareness of how pupil development affects learning.
  • Familiarity with school policies including Health and Safety and Child Protection.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out duties of a school teacher in line with the School Teachers Pay and Conditions and Teachers’ Standards.
  • Meet requirements for Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Plan and deliver suitable lessons with structure, pace and challenge.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to support attainment.
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment and report safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Establish effective working relationships with colleagues and parents.

Job description

Generalduties and key responsibilities
  • To carry out the duties of a school teacher as setout in the ‘School Teachers Pay and Conditions’ Document andlisted in the Teachers’ Standards.
  • Continue to meet the requirements for QualifiedTeacher Status.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the FoundationStage, National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education(RE).
  • Understand how pupils’ learning is affected bytheir physical, intellectual, emotional and social development and tounderstand the stages of child development.
  • Select and make good use of ICT skills forclassroom and management support.
  • Be familiar with school’s current systems andstructures as outlined in policy documents including the Health and Safety andChild Protection policies. Reporting any safeguarding concerns immediately toone of our designated safeguarding leads.
Planning, Teaching and class management
  • Plan and deliver in relation to the Early LearningGoals, National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for RE with regard for theschool’s aim statement, own policies and schemes of work, the teachingprogramme for all children within the class.
  • Provide clear structure for lessons and forsequences of lessons, which maintain pace, motivation and challenge.
  • Make effective use of assessment information onpupils’ attainment and progress and in planning future lessons.
  • Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groupsand individuals, establishing high expectations of behaviour and attainment, sothat teaching objectives are met.
  • Monitor and intervene when teaching to ensure soundlearning and discipline and maintain a safe environment in which pupils feelconfident.
  • Use a variety of teaching and learning styles tokeep pupils engaged.
  • Be familiar with the Code of Practice andidentification, assessment and support of pupils with Special Educational Needs(SEN).
  • Evaluate their own teaching critically to improveeffectiveness.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting and Accountability
  • Assess and record each pupil’s progresssystematically with reference to the school’s current practice and use theresults to inform planning.
  • Mark and monitor class work and homework, providingconstructive feedback and setting targets for future progress.
  • Provide reports on individual progress to theHeadteacher and parents as required.
Other Professional Requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with professional colleagues and parents.
  • Participate as required with professionalcolleagues and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of thepost.
  • Be aware of the need to take responsibility foryour own professional development.
  • Take part in school routines including meetings, assemblies,playground duties and external activities.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and proceduresrelating to Child Protection, Health and Safety, Security, Confidentiality andData Protection reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of theschool.
