Job summary

Vertiv in the United Kingdom seeks a Power Systems & Electronics Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership across power architecture, power electronics and control systems within high‑density liquid cooling.

You will guide decisions on AC/DC architectures, drive standardisation, review schematics and tooling, and mentor teams while collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure compliant, robust electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in electrical engineering, power systems and power electronics in high‑reliability environments.
• Deep expertise in power distribution, protection, load management and power conversion.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage DC architectures in modern distribution systems.
• Experience with VFDs and harmonic mitigation.
• Working knowledge of electrical standards (UL/IEC/EN/IEEE) and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to lead design decisions and review schematics and components.
• Experience in data centre, liquid cooling, or safety‑critical environments.
• Familiarity with Modbus, BACnet, SNMP and DCIM/BMS interfaces.
• Experience in electrical testing, validation and safety principles.
• Degree and Chartered status required; UL 508A MTR accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as the recognised technical authority for power systems, power electronics, and associated control systems within CDU and liquid cooling products.
• Define, maintain, and govern design standards, technical guidance, and best practice for power architecture, distribution, protection, grounding, redundancy and resilience.
• Lead technical oversight of VFDs, motor control, power conversion, harmonic mitigation, EMC compliance, filtering strategies, and overall power quality management.
• Review and approve critical engineering deliverables, including schematics, calculations, component selection, and system‑level decisions.
• Lead complex technical investigations, validation, verification and root cause analysis, while mentoring engineering teams and engaging suppliers.
• Drive initiatives with speed, precision, discipline and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will guide critical decisions on AC and DC power architectures, power quality, protection, control integration, and resilience, reducing technical risk and driving standardisation across products and projects. This role will define and govern standards, support engineering delivery, and ensure reliable, compliant electrical and electronic system performance across concept, design, manufacture, validation, and commissioning. You will guide decisions on power system architectures, including AC and DC approaches, with a focus on efficiency, resilience, operability, and integration. Acting as an independent technical authority, you will reduce technical risk, drive standardisation, and support multidisciplinary teams in delivering robust engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive, demonstrable experience in electrical engineering, power systems, power electronics within industrial, mission-critical, or high-reliability environments.
• Strong, in-depth expertise in power distribution, protection systems, load management, power conversion technologies, and power quality.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage DC power architectures and their application within modern power distribution systems.
• Practical experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), including mitigation of power quality issues such as harmonics through the use of harmonic filters and power factor correction techniques.
• In-depth understanding of power system design and architecture, together with working knowledge of relevant electrical standards and regulatory frameworks, including UL, IEC (60335-1, 60335-2-40, 62368), EN, BS, NFPA (70, 70E, 79) and IEEE, and the ability to apply them in product development and compliance activities.
• Knowledge of modern AC and DC power architectures, redundant pump and motor control strategies, and automatic failover schemes.
• Proven experience leading specification, review, and approval of schematics, calculations, component selection, and system-level design decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations, provide clear engineering direction, and communicate effectively across engineering, suppliers, manufacturing, and leadership teams. Experience in data centre, liquid cooling, or other mission-critical or safety-critical environments.
• Understanding of facility integration protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, or SNMP, together with DCIM/BMS interfacing.
• Practical experience in electrical testing, validation, transient or fault response, and functional safety principles.
• Knowledge and experience of SCCR ratings and calculations, Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Chartered/Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
• UL 508A MTR Accreditation preferred.
