Job Description

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, responsible for the electrical design, development and delivery of switch-mode power supplies used within Industrial, Healthcare and Technology applications.

Level of Autonomy and Experience

Limited supervision in:

1. The electrical design for all sections of high performance switch mode power supplies for Industrial, Healthcare and Technology applications.
2. The development and optimisation of performance to meet target specifications within cost and project plan milestone dates.
3. The delivery of high integrity design for mass production to include ease of manufacture, field reliability over the product design lifetime and ease of customer integration.
4. Accountability for the project delivery and mentoring of Level 1 Electrical Power Supply Design Engineers.

5+ years’ experience in AC-DC switch-mode power supply design from conception to production.

Qualifications

Design

1. Work in a R&D team of electrical, mechanical, manufacturing engineers and technicians on delivering product design in line with XP Core Values.
2. Provide technical expertise in new basic product design and modification of existing products.
3. Responsible for the specification and compliance of designs for the product lifecycle.
4. Responsible for component part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost.
5. Provide input to continuous improvement to the Production process.
6. Ensure consistency in design reviews, verification and qualification efforts.
7. Keep up to date with new technology applicable to our industry, experiment and communicate/collaborate with our other design colleagues.
8. Foster creativity and innovation in design solutions.
9. Self-motivated team member supporting and delivering projects from concept to manufacturing working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.

Documentation

1. Review and create engineering and associated documentation.
2. Ensure completeness of all documentation to assure smooth transition from product design and testing into manufacturing.
3. Active participation in the delivery of project milestones/deliverables.
4. Report on electrical design status on the assigned tasks as required.
5. Provide answers to all queries relating to the design.

Customer

Liaises with other XP departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner.

Other duties may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering/Power Electronics or equivalent experience.
2. Proven knowledge of different topologies.
3. Proven knowledge of EMC, thermals, magnetic design, analogue and some digital design.
