Job summary

Adepto Technical Recruitment is seeking a Chemist/Plant Chemist for a modern power generation environment in the UK. The role involves routine sampling and analysis of boiler water, cooling water, and condensate, with emphasis on compliance with safety and quality standards.

You will monitor water chemistry, interpret lab results, and maintain calibration records while collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to ensure reliable plant performance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine sampling and analysis of boiler water, cooling water, condensate, and process water.
• Monitor boiler and cooling water chemistry to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
• Analyse laboratory results, identify trends, and investigate abnormal findings.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, and calibration documentation.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
• Verify chemical dosing programmes and support adjustments where required.
• Assist in troubleshooting chemistry-related process issues to minimise corrosion, scaling, and fouling.
• Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to support safe, reliable plant performance.
• Ensure all laboratory work complies with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse laboratory results, identify trends, and investigate abnormal findings.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, and calibration documentation.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analytical equipment.
• Verify chemical dosing programmes and support adjustments where required.
• Assist in troubleshooting chemistry-related process issues to minimise equipment corrosion, scaling, and fouling.
• Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
• Ensure all laboratory work complies with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and plant operations.

• Previous experience working as a Chemist, Plant Chemist, Power Plant Chemist, Water Chemist, or in a similar laboratory-based role.
• Practical laboratory experience performing analytical testing and interpreting results.
• Knowledge of boiler water and cooling water chemistry.
• Experience using laboratory equipment such as pH meters, conductivity meters, spectrophotometers, titration equipment, and dissolved oxygen analysers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and produce technical reports.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
