Job summary

Octagon Group seeks a Power Electronics Development Engineer in Barnstaple to join a growing engineering team developing high performance power supplies.

You will take ownership of design projects, from customer requirements through circuit design, prototyping, testing and qualification, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative SMPS solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on bench work, adherence to EMC and safety standards, and clear technical documentation for customers.

Qualifications

• Experience designing SMPS products from concept through qualification.
• Knowledge of Flyback, Forward and Half Bridge converter topologies.
• Experience with analogue and power electronics circuit design.
• Knowledge of EMC principles and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom and modified switch mode power supplies to meet customer specifications.
• Select appropriate power conversion topologies and technologies for each application.
• Produce circuit designs, prototype hardware and carry out bench testing.
• Generate technical specifications where required.
• Review and approve design verification testing and technical documentation.
• Communicate technical progress with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Support PCB layout activities and provide technical guidance during development.
