Job Description:

Christopher are recruiting a Power BI Engineer on behalf of a client in the financial services industry.

Overview

This role is ideal for someone passionate about transforming data into actionable insights through advanced reporting and visualisation. You will play a key role in shaping reporting strategy, developing robust Power BI dashboards, and maintaining our data infrastructure to support business intelligence initiatives.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, product, and support to deliver high-impact reporting solutions that drive decision-making across the organisation.

What You'll Do

Beyond the ongoing development and maintenance of the data systems, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to support business intelligence and operational needs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into effective data visualisations.
• Maintain SSRS reports for operational and legacy reporting needs.
• Work with Azure SQL and managed instances to support scalable, cloud-based reporting solutions.
• Diagnose and resolve data and reporting issues.
• Ensure accuracy and consistency in reports and dashboards.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for reporting solutions, data models, and best practices.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Support our Data Engineer with optimisation of T-SQL queries and stored procedures used in reporting datasets.
• Help support SQL Server databases and our Data Warehouse to support reporting performance and reliability.
• Occasional assistance for ETL processes using SSIS and Azure Data Factory to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.

Skills Needed

• Minimum 3 years of experience with Power BI.
• DAX (Data Analysis Expressions): Writing efficient and complex DAX formulas for calculated columns, measures, and KPIs.
• Power Query (M Language): Data transformation and shaping using Power Query Editor.
• Data Modeling: Designing star/snowflake schemas, relationships, and optimizing data models for performance.
• Data Visualisation Best Practices: Ability to design intuitive and impactful dashboards.
• KPI Development: Creating and tracking key performance indicators aligned with business goals.
• Strong experience with MS SQL Server, T-SQL, and performance tuning for reporting workloads.
• An understanding of SSRS and SSIS for traditional reporting and ETL processes.
• Data Warehousing Concepts: Understanding of dimensional modeling, fact and dimension tables.
• Solid understanding of data visualisation principles and dashboard design best practices.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps version control for Power BI and SQL development.
• Performance Tuning: Optimising Power BI reports and data models for speed and efficiency.
• Experience documenting data models, reporting logic, and user guides.
