Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at Westham Delivery Office in Pevensey for a 32-hour week on a fixed-term 12-month contract, with weekend work and rotating shifts.

You will deliver letters and parcels by van or on foot, build relationships with customers, and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Training is provided along with a benefits package.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit for walking long distances, stairs/hills, and lifting 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.

Location: Westham Delivery Office, BN24 5NA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 32:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:45/14:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Eastbourne Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
