Job summary

Henderson Scott is urgently seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL DBA for a remote, IR35 contract in the public sector.

You will design, tune, and manage PostgreSQL, Aurora, and RDS in secure cloud environments, ensuring high availability and compliance with government standards. SC Clearance is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Active SC Clearance is mandatory.
• Extensive commercial experience as a PostgreSQL DBA.
• Proven AWS cloud experience with Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) and Amazon RDS.
• Strong background in performance tuning, indexing, and troubleshooting query bottlenecks.
• Public sector or secure environments experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and manage PostgreSQL, Aurora, and RDS instances.
• Tune database performance, troubleshoot slow queries, and monitor proactively.
• Execute schema updates, migrations, and engine upgrades safely in cloud environments.
• Support disaster recovery, backup protocols, and high-availability setups.
• Collaborate with software, engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure teams on database design best practices.
• Help ensure optimal performance, high availability, and adherence to government security standards.
