Job summary

University of Oxford, Department of Pharmacology, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to study characterising crosslinked proteins and lipids as part of a Wellcome Trust-funded collaboration.

You will guide junior researchers, manage research activities, and apply proteomics and lipidomics techniques, including LCMS, to generate high-quality data and reports for journals and meetings.

Qualifications

• PhD/DPhil in Chemistry or Biochemistry with relevant experience.
• Knowledge of protein and/or lipid biomolecule methods and analytical procedures including LCMS and data analysis.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Proteomics and Lipidomics

Associate Professor Shabaz Mohammed's group in the Department of Pharmacology are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to carry out research into characterising (crosslinked) proteins and lipids as part of a Wellcome Trust-funded collaborative grant.

The role:

You will be expected to provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students. You will manage your academic research and administrative activities, including project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will use existing and new scientific techniques, test hypotheses and analyse scientific data, contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone.

Applicant Requirements:

You must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in Chemistry or Biochemistry (or be close to completion), together with relevant experience and have knowledge of protein and/or lipid biomolecule methods. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out analytical procedures that are applied for proteome/lipidome characterisation to a high degree of precision including sample preparation, LCMS and data analysis. Practical experience with constructing and maintaining nanoLCMS systems would be an advantage.

The post is fixed-term for 2 years, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
