Job summary

Royal Mail Newton Stewart Delivery Office is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract for 6 months. The role covers a 30-hour week across Monday to Sunday with a 10:00–16:00 shift, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in the local area.

Training is provided, a uniform, and the iconic red van. You will work outdoors in all weather, build relationships with customers, and enjoy overtime opportunities and a competitive pension.

Qualifications

• Full UK manual driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Able to pass a driving assessment and drive a Royal Mail van daily.
• Physically fit for long walking distances, lifting mailbags, and outdoor work.

Responsibilities

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 10:00/16:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
