Job summary

Royal Mail Group is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Sunderland to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating schedule. This fixed-term 6-month contract offers 25 hours per week, overtime, and weekend shifts, with full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van.

You will walk long distances, deliver by van and on foot, and work outdoors in all weather while building relationships with customers.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 25 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 15:00/20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays 13:30/20:00.

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
